Create Short URL

In this article, we will show you how to use a URL shortener to create short URLs.  In this previous article, we outlined the steps to create a Survey URL (http://kb.internetcreations.com/?kb=000004988).  The URL that was created is really long and not something you would want to include in a text, chat, community, or social media post.  The solution is to use a URL shortener.

For this exercise we choose to use Bitly but there are other URL shorteners on the market you can decide to choose.

Manually create a short URL
  1. Go to www.bitly.com
  2. Enter the the long Survey URL you got from the Create Survey URL article and click shorten.
  1. Click copy to add the short URL to your computer's clipboard

Now you have a short URL that can be sent through any distribution channel you choose.

Want to Automate the Process?
Use the Bitly API to send a long URL and get back a short URL that you can save to a custom field and / or automate sending to various distribution channels.  Be sure to check the rate limits for your free or paid plan.
