For global organizations, translating surveys into different languages is key to getting feedback that matters. Surveys can be translated in full, including email templates and all aspects of the landing page.
Email Template:
In the Survey Builder, select the existing survey program to be translated, navigate to the last tab, Delivery & Deployment Settings, and expand the Email Template section.
Define the desired language from the dropdown, and give the survey template a new name corresponding to the new language.
Add the appropriate translations for the Subject Line, Greeting/Initial Question, and Closing.
Please Note: The labels for the ratings and the text in the link to open the survey in a browser will be translated as part of the landing page labels. Keep reading for instructions.
When done, click the 'Create Email Template' button and save it as a new template. After that, update the Flow or create a new one that will fire the translated survey to make sure that the appropriate email template is used when sending surveys to customers.
Landing Page:
In the Simple Survey Setup tab, there's a Translation tool that can be used to translate surveys.
Translations are available for the following: Labels for Questions, Labels for End Screens, and Labels for the Simple Survey Landing Pages.
First, enable the desired language in Translation Workbench in Salesforce setup. Next, go to the Translation tab in Simple Survey, which will show the newly enabled language as an option with the necessary settings to upload the translations. Click the purple add button to add the language to the list of Translations.
Please Note: If a language is disabled in the Translation workbench, an “Inactive in Translation Workbench” text will appear. Translations can still be added for inactive languages but won’t go live until the language is activated.
Next, download the CSV file containing all the survey labels that need to be translated from English to the new language. Work with a translator or a person assigned to do the translations, and have them input all the translated values in the “Translation” column.
Once all translations are done, make sure that the file name is not changed. Salesforce looks for the language code within the file name - so this is important for the translations CSV to work properly! Once saved, navigate back to the Translation tab and click “Click to Upload” or drag the file to the desired language's section.
Please Note: Picklist values still need to be translated via Translation Workbench. Please click on the 'click here' link in the Translation tab or navigate there by going to Setup | User Interface | Translation Workbench | Translate.
Once Translations have been uploaded, test the survey to make sure all translations are working as expected. Within the desired language section, generate a test URL that will direct to the translated survey. Select a survey to test and a URL will automatically generate. The responses to these test surveys will be saved and marked as a test survey record.
If any of the labels have not been translated, or need to be updated, download the CSV file again to get the most recent version and update it with the desired labels.
Automatic Language Translation on the Landing Page:
Simple Survey detects the respondent's browser settings by looking at the default language it's using and automatically displays the survey in that language if one is available. That way, if a respondent is in Brazil, using a browser in Portuguese, they will automatically be shown a Portuguese (Brazil) survey when the landing page loads if one is available.
To allow this to happen, make sure to enable the language as a language available for automatic translation on the landing page. Next to the language, make sure the toggle is set to 'Enabled'.
If set to 'Disabled', the language would not show up on the language selector dropdown menu of the landing page.
